Last month, UMC became the FIRST hospital in the region to be designated a Level IV Maternal Program, the highest level achievable and only the 10th to earn Level IV in the entire state! This designation encompasses Family Birth Center, Family Care Unit and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Maternal Levels of Care in Texas were created to improve women’s maternal health. A Level IV maternal care facility provides and demonstrates the most comprehensive care for pregnant and postpartum patients. Multiple teams played an important role in earning this rigorous designation—from all maternity teams to Respiratory Therapy, Social Services, Pharmacy, Food & Nutrition, Clinical lab and Blood Bank.
“The designation confirms UMC offers the highest level of care for even the most complex obstetric patients,” Dr. Edward Yeomans, a Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist and Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Texas Tech University Health Science Center. “Achievement of Level IV Maternal Designation speaks to the expertise of our clinical staff and the processes we have in place to assure quality care and excellent patient outcomes for both the mother and the baby.”
Our Maternal Program is a cornerstone of our success and our partnership with TTUHSC – garnering 56% of total birth market share in Lubbock. An entire team has worked for 18 months to bring us to this achievement!
